Welcome to Ealing Hedgehog Friends

There are hedgehogs in Ealing
Despite urbanisation, heatwaves, increased road traffic and declining insects, hedgehogs are still here with us. They are little fighters who visit our gardens, parks, and dangerous street corners at night to find food, mates and nesting spaces. They need our help Hedgehogs in the UK are close to extinction. Ealing Hedgehog Friends was set up to rescue sick, injured and orphaned hedgehogs, and to provide information for local residents on how to protect and support hedgehogs. Let us make Ealing hedgehog-safe. Help us support them Ealing Hedgehog Friends is a non-profit, fully volunteer-driven organisation and does not receive any government funding. We are always looking for volunteers and donations to help us keep going. And most importantly, we invite you to join a community of people who are making their gardens more hedgehog friendly and watching out for hedgehogs in need while spending time outdoors. Thank you for being here. |
Our mission
We work to protect hedgehogs in Ealing and help reverse their decline, with hedgehogs now listed as vulnerable to extinction in Great Britain.
Our focus is simple: engage the community to protect hedgehogs, care for hedgehogs in need, and return them to the wild whenever possible. |
Our work
We rescue and care for injured, sick, malnourished and orphaned hedgehogs, aiming to release them back where they were found.
Our trained volunteers work alongside local vets and wildlife hospitals to provide first aid, fostering and medical care. We educate the public on hedgehog safety and how to create wildlife-friendly habitats. We always act in the best interests of the hedgehog – keeping them wild and prioritising their welfare. |
Your role If you see a hedgehog that needs help, either because it is out in the day or is visibly unwell at night - immediately contact us at [email protected]
As a garden owner, leader of a school or an allotment group, you could make your grounds more hedgehog friendly. Learn more If you are looking for ways to support us, you could volunteer your time and join our team. If you can't do hands-on rescue work, there are many other roles in our educational programmes. You could support us financially or help with fundraising – we are self-funding and rely on donations for vet bills, medication and equipment. Saving hedgehogs is expensive! |
We are busy saving hedgehogs...
In the first three years of our rescue work we responded to almost 300 inquiries to our help line. We now have 50 trained rescue volunteers and 30 dedicated drivers. In the busy summer months, our team helps 1-2 hedgehogs a day.
... and providing more education than ever
As our rescue process now works like a well-oiled machine, we can focus more on habitat protection and education. We have intensified our collaboration with local schools, allotments and individual garden owners to make their grounds more hedgehog friendly. And we go out on speaker assignments and hedgehog talks to raise more awareness about hedgehogs.
